Last time I made doughnuts, I kind of decided that I didn't need to do it ever again. Then I saw
these strawberry doughnuts and I about died. They looked so good! So I found myself in my kitchen today, giving doughnuts another try. I think I just need more practice. :) But I'm afraid I might eat the whole batch myself (I already feel a sugar headache coming on), so maybe I should swear them off for reals this time?
I followed the recipe exactly as written and was pleased with how they turned out. They were delicious straight from the fryer; very sweet and tender and so fresh! But I think my glaze needed more powdered sugar. It was really runny and sticky and it never hardened properly. Oh well, they were delicious anyway. And I ate more than my fair share.
Have you ever made doughnuts?
Nope...because I love them and if I did I have no doubt I'd eat every last one!
ReplyDeleteI have never made donuts before, maybe I'll try it sometime. Those look really yummy, maybe you should bring some to Mutual tonight? Think about it:).
ReplyDeleteI have, many years ago. So fun watching them rise up.
ReplyDeleteYour strawberry ones look WONDERFUL!
I guess I'm dumb but what is AP flour? They look yummy! Mom
ReplyDeleteI don't know what AP flour is, either. I just used regular. Anyone know?
ReplyDeleteI think AP just means all-purpose flour as opposed to bread or pastry flour. I used to make my Dad donuts every year for his birthday, they were his favorite thing.
ReplyDeleteMy mother told me you should always mix up the batter the night before and leave it in the fridge overnight and fry the donuts the next day, so that is what I do.
When I was little and my mother was making donuts she was so worried I would get splattered with the hot grease she made me wait in the tv room until she was done frying them.
I can only make donuts about once a year...because I have no willpower at all. Your donuts looked yummy.
One year at YW camp, a long time ago, the cooks made us all homemade doughnuts rolled in cinnamon sugar for dessert on night. They were amazing. I've thought about making some myself, but haven't done it. Your doughnuts look amazing! Maybe I'll have to just try it sometime soon. Very soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had much luck with doughnuts, but this recipe makes me want to try again. They look a lot like the yummy pink doughnuts at our nearby Daylight Donuts. Yum.
ReplyDeleteOh my lands I am drooling! We make doughnuts for conference. That way there will be a big crowd to eat them which is the only time I allow myself to make them!
ReplyDeleteDon't swear off making doughnuts! How sad!
I just saw those 2 minutes ago and thought I might need to give donuts a try!
ReplyDeletethose look so delicious! my dad's dad had a doughnut shop in phoenix long ago. you think we'd make them more often.
ReplyDeletethose look SO delicious. saw them featured on PW and wanted to make them. i've made regular ones before but my glaze turned out funky, too! still good...just too grainy.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a beautiful job! very pretty picture!
ReplyDeleteSwoon.
ReplyDeleteThese look delish! And if you ditch the crisco for butter and the vegetable oil for coconut oil, you can make them nutritious, too!
