Pumpkin Donuts

This morning I thought that making pumpkin donuts would be a good idea. Why? Why do I do this to myself? Having a batch of warm donuts sitting on my counter is not in my best interest. I will never learn.

You can find the recipe here. They were yummy, but I still need to perfect my frying technique. Or not. No, I probably shouldn't.

the key to my heart

On this day eleven years ago, I married that guy down there in the navy sport coat (my best decision to date, by the way). To celebrate (and because he knows me so well), he took me and the littles out for donuts this morning. Yum.

If you are local, we love Bosa Donuts the best. Their buttermilk bar is a little piece of heaven.

There was a digger dumping a load of dirt into a dump truck right outside the shop! So exciting for our little boy. And once upon a time, Stella's donut was covered with pink frosting. Until she ate it. Just the part with the frosting.

strawberry doughnuts

Last time I made doughnuts, I kind of decided that I didn't need to do it ever again. Then I saw these strawberry doughnuts and I about died. They looked so good! So I found myself in my kitchen today, giving doughnuts another try. I think I just need more practice. :) But I'm afraid I might eat the whole batch myself (I already feel a sugar headache coming on), so maybe I should swear them off for reals this time?

I followed the recipe exactly as written and was pleased with how they turned out. They were delicious straight from the fryer; very sweet and tender and so fresh! But I think my glaze needed more powdered sugar. It was really runny and sticky and it never hardened properly. Oh well, they were delicious anyway. And I ate more than my fair share.

Have you ever made doughnuts?

I love doughnuts.

This weekend I made my first batch of doughnuts. I had never made them before because the idea of having really hot oil on my stove makes me really nervous. It was fun, but guess what I decided. Doughnuts are better left to the professionals.

I used this recipe, and I think I over cooked them. Darn it.
