This weekend I made my first batch of doughnuts. I had never made them before because the idea of having really hot oil on my stove makes me really nervous. It was fun, but guess what I decided. Doughnuts are better left to the professionals.
I used this recipe, and I think I over cooked them. Darn it.
Yum! I've been craving that recipe since your mom brought the BHG magazine here.
ReplyDeletewhen i saw your post i thought of the bhg magazine i just got!
ReplyDeleteSteph, I made those once back in 1954(a long time ago)they tured out good but have never made them again.
ReplyDeleteMaking homemade doughnuts was on my to-do list for the year & I tried this recipe.

They were pretty awesome but I agree - I don't think I'll be making them again for another 10-20 years. It felt like the recipe made hundreds. Doughnuts aren't my thing anyway - give me cake or cookies any day of the week.
The trouble with making doughnuts is then I'd have to eat them all...well done or not.
ReplyDeleteStephanie I am the same as you hot oil always scares me to cook with. But those doughnuts look really good. They would be perfect for a snowy day with hot chocolate!
ReplyDeleteOne of my happy memories of Mom's kitchen is when she would make doughnuts...about twice a year! I got to help her cut them out and she saved the "holes" just for us kids! Do it once a year...OK, I should too!
ReplyDeleteTry specialty doughnut pans and make "cake-style" baked doughnuts. I have a mini and a full sized pan. My kids always want doughnuts but a peanut allergy makes it impossible for us to buy store bought. Hope this helps :)
ReplyDeletemmm they make my mouth water..That photo looks so good...
ReplyDeleteMy mom makes a recipe with potato flakes in them on Halloween and they are pretty good that night, but not worth eating after a few hours. If you ever feel the need to try again, get the Beignet mix from Cafe Du Monde- they make little square donuts that are really to die for!
