A couple of weeks ago, I realized that I had slipped back into the habit of looking at my phone right before I fell asleep at night and again as soon as I woke up the next morning. Instead of connecting with Mike or focusing on my prayers or thinking about the day ahead of me, I was scrolling through instagram. I didn't like the way that made me feel. So I picked up a little alarm clock at the store and I've started leaving my phone in the kitchen when I head to bed. It is a small thing, but it's made such a difference.

a five dollar solution

Bravo! Yep, no phones ever in our bedroom. I have an old fashioned clock/radio alarm clock positioned at the other end of the room which I normally wake up before its 5:30 time to turn off the alarm and to start my day. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny, I have decided to do the same thing! I have an alarm clock on my grocery list! Even though I try to read at night, in the morning, it's the first thing I do when I get up! Then once I check facebook I do my Bible study. I decided that it was backwards! So I am buying one also!
ReplyDeleteThere are teenagers in my stake that like some of my instagram posts at 11PM at night and the parents say they use their phones as alarm clocks so need them at night. They should all buy them alarm clocks like yours!
ReplyDeleteWe just discussed this idea last week and now need to implement it. We make our kids do it, but we need to hold ourselves accountable too.
ReplyDeleteIt makes all the difference for me too. Not only for spiritual/connection purposes but also for sleep. So many people complain about sleep issues and spend the night googling solutions on their smart phones! It's important for our bodies to have a break from the harsh lights of our devices at least 30 minutes before we plan on trying to fall asleep.
