summer days
Summer is in full swing over here. While I don't like having commitments during the summer, I do like having a routine. We've fallen into quite a nice one, and it goes something like this:
Mornings are for sleeping in, then errands or jobs or play. Lunch is our main meal, as it is better to use the stove and oven before the heat of the afternoon sets in. After lunch comes my favorite part of the day - quiet time. Everyone finds a book to read while Elliot takes a little nap. Once he's up, we head to the pool. We're usually worn out by the time we get home, so dinner is something light, like a smoothie or cereal or popcorn. I've been letting everyone stay up later than usual. I tell them they can read in their beds for as long as they'd like. Reading in bed late at night is one of my favorite memories from my childhood, and I love that our lazy mornings make this a possibility. We've made sure to stock up on lots of books from the library.
Here's to a low-key, easy summer!

Sounds lovely! I wish my children would sleep in. Today they slept in until 7, which for me was a treat lol. I love summer days and having a routine, but no serious commitments. It is so refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI love th idea of reading as late as you like in the holidays... Going to pinch that be or a few years time!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely! But when do you do your work? Cleaning, shopping, errands, etc. I'm used to doing those while the kids are in school, and other than a little time in the late mornings, I can't find time/motivation for that stuff.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS! Especially the big meal of the day at lunch time and super light dinners What a brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I would love to hear what you serve for lunch as your main meal!!!
ReplyDeleteThese summer days and your "routine" sound so blissful it reminds me alot of my home - I like unstructured summer days but definitely with some routine, chores and cleaning thrown in the week otherwise I start getting antsy! I do have a question..I do get the light dinner for you and the kids but what does your hubby eat for dinner after a long hard day at work? Surely, he isn't served just a bowl of cereal or smoothie right?

ReplyDeleteI always have leftovers saved for him from our lunch. Lots of times, he has eaten a large lunch and isn't interested in eating a large dinner, anyway. Thank you for asking.
DeleteIn Germany, breakfast and lunch are the main meals - dinner is called 'evening bread' - just something light. I LOVE it. In lots of countries I've lived in it's been like that - Syria, Ethiopia - lunch is the main deal. It's so the way to go! Totlaly the way I like to eat. And these summer days sound amazing. Late night reading and plenty of quiet time mixed with the pool - perf. Love you guys!
