What is your signature style?

After reviewing the tapes at Cardigan Empire, I have decided that my signature style is most definitely traditional, with a hint of romance. I love this blouse that Reachel had me wear. It is classic and beautiful, but not boring. If only my budget could allow such a lovely thing! I have a new goal. It is to stop wearing boring clothes. I have finally lost my baby weight, and I don't plan on being pregnant this year, so I need to mend my lounge-wearing ways. A shopping trip is definitely in order. My side of the closet is sadly empty.

  1. Ok, At first glance you would not take style tips from me, I mostly wear t-shirts and cords, but I love that simple white top and I currently own 4 white tops like that one. I wear them on dates, to church and work. Two of them are from Gap, one from Old Navy and one from Target. The most I paid for one was at Old Navy and it was $12 on clearance! I just had to have it, so I splurged. I have only been to Antro a few times and the only reasonable thing I found at regular price were some bowls at $4 a piece- and as a potter I approved- but I will just make them myself. I did get some great drawer pulls on clearance for $3 a pop...so there is hope in their clearance. I went through a phase where I only wore simple button up shirts, plain or with simple prints. They really perked up jeans. (like this top). Can you believe I got one at J. Crew for $3? And you are small like me. I got several complements on some I picked up in the girls section at Old Navy. (Cheaper than grown up- and cute). You can totally do this look on a budget and look very cute. Who says you need to do it at Anthro? Who knows, mabye it will make it's way to the clearance...but the max I would ever pay for that top...If I totally loved it and could not do with out it is $20. And then it would be held sacred. Not kidding. Target and Old Navy are a bit on the lower end of quality, but with kids-it helps to know I only paid a little when I get spaghetti sauce on something. But you would be surprised at the deals I've gotten at Gap, J. Crew and Banana Republic!!! Go to Anthro for inspiration-, check their clearance, then head out to look around. The hunt is half the fun, and then to brag about how much you did not pay is even better, especially if it from a higher end store!!!

  3. steph i hear you. eric and i will go shopping and i'll pick out a shirt and he says its plain, but then i try to explain that i don't have a shirt in that color. I have tried to shop outside my box of plain color shirts and most of the time I like what i get. good luck in getting your perfect style.

  5. Hi, I love your blog and have been reading it for a long time. I found it from Jill Stoddard. I guess I'm a long time lurker...eeep! It's through you that I first starting reading Nienie, about 2 1/2 years ago. So thank you for that.

But anyway, I just think that you are a wonderful mom and inspire me to do better with my own kiddos.

And thanks so much for posting that chocolate chip cookie recipe. I made it and it is now my favorite. I'm posting it on my recipe blog too, I hope that's okay. Thanks so much! You're so beautiful!

  6. I have a very plain style too and was just thinking the other day that I'd like to get some new stuff for spring. Something with some pizzazz. I worked in child care for 25 years and always wore plain cause....let's face it....kids are messy. But now I work in an office and want some prettier stuff. Problem is...I'm heavy and the plus size clothes I find is so old-lady-ish.
