There was a big storm last night.

But you'd never know it. I'm always surprised when the world's loudest thunder and pouring rain wake me up in the middle of the night, and then in the morning the sky is a clear blue as far as the eye can see. Where did it all go? I love monsoon season. Even though it makes the air sticky, it is such a relief from the usual.

We're having a house full of guests this weekend and we are so excited. Lots of sheet washing and baseboard scrubbing happening around here. I'm even thinking about cleaning out our super scary who-knows-what-infested basement window wells for the occasion.

In other news, Elliot crafts and I have sore knees. Does that make me a real runner?

  2. Ah, sore knees are never fun!! You should check out Danny Dreyer's chi running. Totally saved my knees! I got the book and dvd from the library.
    Your kids are so precious!

  3. I have been walking/running 3 miles a day for the past 5 weeks. Just two days ago my left knee got really sore. I am not sure if I am not stretching enough or if I'm not running correctly- but I too felt like a real runner ;) Just- no serious injuries, I don't want to stop running!!! P.S.- Thank you for responding back to me, my daughter's party was yesterday, it was a bit stressful but super sweet. Live and learn. XO

  5. Your sore knees could just be because you are new to running. However, I would really recommend getting fitted with the correct running shoe to prevent injury. Lots of people suggest getting fitted at road runner sports, but I was not at all impressed. I have been fitted at almost all of the small running stores in the valley and their experts put me in the same type of shoe and same size. Road runner wanted me in a whole size smaller (and I knew it was wrong) and they put Nate in a totally different type of shoe. Wrong again. He just got fitted at the tri shop, Iron Gear Sports. He was there over an hour getting put into the correct shoes. So stick to the smaller private running stores. There is a good one in Gilbert to. I think it is called RUN AZ? Also, like Bekks said. Try looking at that Chi running book. I have yet to buy it. But as a new runner, it will be easier to change your running form than it would be for those of us that have been running the same way for so long. I have never had a big bad injury, so I have not looked into changing anything.. but I hear that Chi running stuff is excellent!

  6. oh and do some cross training and strength to save your body. Yoga is great and I loved jillian michaels ripped in 30 or 30 day shred. Short and pretty fun. There are tons of yoga videos out there too, and yoga classes are great!

  7. The storm woke me up too. I was just happy my kids didn't get woken up/scared by it. It was sooo loud!

  8. Thanks stephanie. I feel like i don't want to be pregnant any more! I missed a lot of great running weather in the mountains and I will be back to running when the temps are freezing and the roads are icy, but I have a marathon I already signed up for, so it will motivate me to get out there and train. At least I have the treadmill too. And, even if you love your shoes, get fitted. I loved Adidas response trail. I had several pair of them. I used to have some knee problems in college (did not keep me from running). I got fitted probably in 2001 or 2002 (I really started running in 1998) and found that the neutral Adidas response shoe was not my shoe, even though I loved it. After being fitted I have been in a satbility shoes and have never gone back. In fact, I have worn the Brooks Adrenaline for at least 8 years. (i probably go through 3 pr a year). Get new running shoes about every 300 miles. You have a little frame so you could probably go longer before wearing them out! I just go by feel.
