I need another vacation. Or just a nap.

Sometimes going on vacation can put me into a funk. In my real life, I don't go out to lunch everyday, I never go shopping, and I don't get to laze around chatting with my sister all day long. Oh man, I had so much fun last week in Dallas! But I have been in the funkiest of funks all week because of it, I think. This morning I'd had enough. So after Mike went to work and while my children slept, I scrubbed my bright kitchen and took some pictures to remind myself that I have a really pretty life.

I'm not going to lie, a lot of Haagen-Dazs and an early birthday present helped a bit, too. (Thanks, Mom. You didn't really expect me to wait til the end of August, did you? I love it!)

Do vacations sometimes make you feel weird? What do you do to feel better?

  2. I feel the same way. I've been in a funk all week after having my little weekend without kids last week. I have yet to figure out how to fix it!

  3. I always go through vacation hangover, as I like to call it. Happy to be home but feel a little out of balance. This happened to me last month. Took our baby to Denver for hubby's graduation and left the older two with family. Life always normalizes eventually.

    Love the cake dish!

  4. Oh man! I know exactly what you are talking about! Coming home from a vacation is always super hard for me. It takes me about two weeks to get my head back in my life. I used to say that having time away was like coming up for air, and then coming home was like being re-submerged --- but that was way too dramatic and not at all fair to the BEAUTY AND GIFT of my "mundane and monotinous" life. Shopping, and eating out, and having days full of 'me time' are lovely - but ultimately would be profoundly unfulfilling.

I think you did just the right thing - throw yourself back into the rhythm of housekeeping, child-rearing, and homemaking. Sew something, make a cake, and snuggle with the kids reading books.

It's oddly comforting that you get in vacation funks too :) Whenever I return from a vacation, I spend the next week or so talking about/pseudo-planning another vacation. But I've never once cleaned something to get out of it -- but I should probably try it since I have been known to leave my suitcase, still packed, on the bedroom floor for a couple weeks at a time.

  7. i think for me it's getting out of my routine that can spin me off center, and the comparison bug that i catch when i'm out in the world. at home i don't have to compare myself to anyone, but, well, myself.

glad you are feeling better! envious of your cake plate collection.

  8. I'm sorry you were not having a good week. I felt the same way, I think also because it just breaks my heart a little bit every time we hang out and then have to say goodbye again. :(
i love you and can't wait for July.

  9. I recently realized I see a lot of beautiful things on the Internet and rarely take the time tell people I appreciate something they've done/created. So I'm trying to be better. So on that note...I saw your cake stand shelf and fell in love, it brought me out of a funk of my own. So cute.
