I'm going to miss this.

Last week, Elliot wouldn't let me put him down in his crib once. So we spent lots of time together on his glider. It's almost as if he knew I was going to be leaving him for a week, and he needed to get in some extra snuggles. I am so happy to be going away with Mike. I know it will be good for us. Going away together is a luxury we haven't been able to afford for a long time. Plus, my mom will be here while we are gone, and I can't think of a more capable woman. So I won't need to worry about the kids one bit. But that doesn't mean that I won't miss them like crazy the second I step onto that plane.

Have you ever left your children to take a vacation with your husband? It is hard to do, but in my experience, it is so so worth it.

Expect a full report when I get home!

  1. aw. as your wise sister said, "babies don't keep" --ethan is still a great snuggled and i'm so grateful for that. jay and i went away for the first time in our 10 year marriage this past spring (we did leave the kids to house-hunt, but i don't really count that -- it was disproportionately stressful so i don't count it as a vacation at all) when we went to new york city. it was heavenly. i am with you and am much more at ease when my mom is with my kids. i don't trust many people with that job but she is an expert in my book. have a wonderful time -- where are you two heading?

  2. You will be okay and you will probably miss them but not enough to not have a great time and enjoy your tim together without interruptions. Beside, who better to take care of them while you are gone. That way they get a vacation too!

  3. In November 2010 we went on a one week cruise for our anniversary (add in travel time and we were gone for 9 days). Baby 2 was seven months old, still nursing and still very much in need of his mama (I booked it before he was born). Longest week of my liiiiife. I seriously just spent the whole time missing him and worrying my boobs would explode.

    I'm sure you'll be fine though :)

  4. We've done three nights away from Addison total. One when she was 5 months, and two a couple of weeks ago. Two nights felt so decadent, but I was absolutely nuts to get back to her the next day. Neal wanted to take our time, but I was missing her like crazy!

  5. It is hard to leave the babies, but so worth it to be able to have an uniterupted conversation with the spouse. It it good to recharge the batteries once in a while. Have fun!

  6. We've taken some long weekends here and there - always worth it. You know, I believe that the anticipation is the hardest part. Once you're away, you appreciate the kid-free time with your hubby and feel recharged when you see your sweet kiddos again. Have fun!

  7. I love your blog. So down to earth. We haven't had the opportunity to leave our babies very much but when we do someday I'm sure it will be hard not to miss their sweet faces :)

  8. 8 years ago my husband and I went away for 3 nights to celebrate our 10th anniversary. like you, my mom came to watch our, at that time, 3 children. we went away again a few years later for a long weekend. since having our 4th child a few years ago, we've only been away once for an overnight. enjoy your time away! a whole week!
