ouch

I think I have a breast infection. I'm sore and feverish and headachy. Darn it.

But isn't my cabinet pretty? It is the first thing you see when you step inside the house, and it makes me think about Grandma Donna every time I look at it (It used to sit in her hallway.). The cabinet was in need of some attention, so I painted it (It was about a million times easier than my kitchen cabinets, just fyi. Going for "rustic" is always less stressful.). I left the original finish on the top because it feels so old and smooth, that I couldn't bare to cover it up. I used Martha's flat enamel paint from the Home Depot in Garden Shed. It is a really subtle greyish green, wasn't at all stinky, and cleaned up like a dream.

Ok, we're off to the basement to play/watch Downton Abbey.

  3. I'm so sorry about your infection. That is no fun. I hope you are better quickly. It's too bad I'm not there to come take care of you and the kids (although I'm sure Mike is doing a great job when not working!).
In other news, we have a second showing tonight, so PRAY. Maybe I will be able to come see your cabinet in person soon.

  4. Oh, Stephanie, I feel your pain. I had mastitis when my son was a baby and it was the worst pain I've been in next to childbirth. I love the cabinet. It's so nice having furniture that means something, isn't it? I hope you feel better soon!

  7. You got to that cabinet before I could. I didn't have a place for it but I would have found one. I saw the beauty in it too but I think you did a much nicer job than I would have. I'm working on my furniture painting skills.

  8. Call you doctor! Mastits is easy to treat with an antibiotic. Also, put cabbage leaves on your breasts...sounds weird but it helps!

  9. we might have some old dressers to paint this summer for the girl's room. A friend said with kids you should plan on buying new stuff every 10 years. I am more into the reuse, recycle, repurpose and buy stuff that will last forever..because it has already been around that long and made it!!! I would love to see this in it's whole. I might be in the mood to paint my buffet.. but i sort of like the idea of keeping it "as is" with the original finish cracking. I love seeing your place for ideas. Did i tell you we are going creamy white in our kitchen too? It is actually called "cream" from sherman williams. I always thought I'd be fine with wood cabinets, but our kitchen is small and would be too dark, so cream they are. However, someone else is doing it for me. What a relief. hopefully they are finished by the time we get home from the valley on Saturday!
