Yesterday I shelled two cups of pecans from our trees with a hammer and my fingernails. It was hard. In the midst it, I decided that maybe the $5 bag of pecans at the grocery store wasn't such a bad deal afterall.
Once I had my pecans ready, I mixed up my first ever batch of granola. I am gifting some of it to my mother for Christmas. The rest I am eating myself.
Christmas is going to be here before I know it. I want to make sure I don't miss a thing. So the following is a list of things I want to do before the big day:
bake and decorate gingerbread cookies (the dough is in the fridge!)
take the kids to see the Temple lights
drink more hot chocolate
take our Christmas card photo (aack!)
make and deliver a holiday treat to our neighbors
read the nativity story in the Bible
watch A Christmas Story and Dan in Real Life (Elf has already been viewed, much to the delight of Mabel and Oliver.)
listen to Nat King Cole's A Cradle in Bethlehem on repeat
attend at least two Christmas parties
wear more red and/or green
get gifts for needy families in our town
pretend it's cold outside
What are you doing to get in the Christmas spirit?
Great list! I've been trying to figure out a night to go see the temple lights too.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I LOVE A Cradle in Bethlehem. And pretty much every other Nat King Cole Christmas song too. But I love a Cradle in Bethlehem so much that I bought the music and my ward choir is doing it this year :)
I have the Christmas-gifts-to-mail lined up on my living room floor, waiting for boxes and tags. And I watched Christmas in Connecticut today!
ReplyDeletethat granola looks awesome. can i inquire where you picked up your containers?
ReplyDeletealso, your list is awesome. i should make one.
We have a December birthday that is consuming me. Robin hood and his merry men all have costumes in my closet ready for the big day- which also happens to be the day of a performance for Maesyn and Nate's work party! Yikes. So with my OCD and ADD i have almost all the presents bought and wrapped and our house decorated. Now after we get this party celebrated the only thing on my list is "sit back and relax and enjoy the holiday" I will be making some honey vanilla almond granola in the next day of two. YOur image reminded me!
ReplyDeletedid you use ann harris' recipe? i still need to try that. and yes, shelling pecans is a huge painola. i like to buy them in little chips, they're near the chocolate chips. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Great list. We're going to our local winter parade. I want to listen to the old Amy Grant Christmas album about 15 more times. And watch National Lampoon Christmas & Home Alone with my extended family.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
i've been doing lots of christmas-y things: hot chocolate, the nutcracker, temple lights, zoo lights, etc. i've never been more festive.
ReplyDeleteone of the things on my list still to do: buy some mistletoe & hang it somewhere we walk under a lot :)
I hope you and Mike are in the Christmas card photo this year! :)
ReplyDeleteYour granola looks yummy.
I wasn't actually planning to celebrate as my family is non-religious. But I was convinced the look on my kids faces would be worth it. LOL I need to try to make my own granola, yours looks so yummy!
