I was tired of clearing off the kitchen table.

I was tired of looking at the kids' coloring table baking in the hot HOT Arizona room, too. So I moved it inside for the summer. Who knows? Maybe it will take up permanent residence in the front hall.

We really live in our living room, so replacing the unused front hall table with something useful just made more sense.

I just hope it's not always a disaster area.

  1. Our family room is right smack behind our entry, and it is always a mess (except right now... it will probably be clean for another 15 minutes!) My next house will have a family room that you can't see from the front door.
But your children are probably better about cleaning up their messes than mine. I've been too lax about getting them to do it. Plus, Sophie likes to be were I am (usually the kitchen), so all her Barbies end up in the family room.

  2. Makes more sense, especially now that summer is here. (We're getting no June Gloom here!!) I love your door Stephanie. The design and color are beautiful.

  4. i hope that is an illusion and that oliver doesn't really look that old.

great idea to move the table. it would be such a waste to have it out in the az room all summer.

  5. We do a "moving of the diversions" twice a year. In the fall months, the board games, puzzles and toy backets/bins get moved to shelving in the garage. In June, they all get moved back into the house.

Year-round, in just about the same place as yours, is a place similar for our kids in the living room.

At the times I wish for a larger home, I always remember that the kids always want to be near me anyway. We would all end up in one room and the rest of the house would be empty!

  6. I forgot to add that my kids love nothing more than to open the garage door and play there and on the driveway in the nice weather.
All of the other children in our cul-de-sac join them. (Just so you didn't think I routinely banish my children to the garage!)

  7. Whatever works, I say! You can see my family room from the front door, and it can be a disaster area for everyone to see. Oh well, one day there will be no messes made to clean up, and we will miss it, I'm sure!
P.S. We miss having Oliver come over to play. The girls must be keeping him entertained.
