The most wonderful time of the year.

It was so nice here the other day that Stella wore her jeans.
And let me just say, that while I'm not usually a fan of grown-up clothes on babies, there is nothing cuter than Stella's body in those skinny jeans.


This week I decided that fall is my favorite season. I even love fall in Arizona. We don't have leaves that change color yet, and we sure don't have cold weather, but it is definitely cooler and there is something very fallish about the angle of the light outside. It is beautiful in its own desert-y way.

Mostly I love fall because it means that I can start baking pumpkin treats. Speaking of, have you made some pumpkin bread yet? If not, you will find my recipe below. Do yourself a favor and bake some right now. I'm serious. We're on batch #2 in two days.

Pumpkin Bread
3 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups sugar
1 cup oil
4 eggs
2 cups canned pumpkin

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix all ingredients.
3. Pour into two greased bread pans.
4. Bake for one hour.

If you are going to make one pumpkin treat this season, make this bread. Next to Marie Callender's Pumpkin Pie (which I eat year round), this is by far my favorite. The recipe comes from my great Aunt Lucille. My sister, Leslie, likes to serve it with cream cheese frosting. It is good plain, but for an extra treat, here is the frosting recipe:

Cream Cheese Frosting
2/3 cup cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups powdered sugar

1. Beat cream cheese and vanilla until fluffy.
2. Add sugar. Beat until smooth.

  1. I love this and have made it a few times since you posted the recipe last year. My only complaint is that the quantity of pumpkin doesn't coincide with even can amounts; I usually put in one can (which I think is less than 2 cups) and then lessen the other ingredients accordingly. It's so moist and yummy.

    You're right about the angle of the light being fallish; I am really enjoying fall so far and love how much time we are all spending outside. Oh yeah, and Stella's legs look so cute in those!

  2. Oooohh! my mouth is watering over both stella in jeans and pumpkin bread! dad bought me some today at kneader's - almost as good as aunt lucille's but no cream cheese frosting. mom

  4. First and foremost: Those jeans are adorable. Beyond adorable. I want to kiss Stella to pieces in those jeans. (Well, that's always the case).
    Second, I got out my recipe for pumpkin bread yesterday(which BTW is identical to yours...maybe I got it from you?) and contemplated making it. You have made up my mind. I didn't have the Cream cheese frosting recipe, and what a difference that makes!

    steph, your pumpkin bread recipe was used over and over last october and november in my home. i've done it once this month, but have grand schemes for it many more times. it's been our favorite. thank you!

  10. I am a huge pumpkin treat fan! I have a super yummy pumpkin banana bread recipe that I make every year. I'll have to give yours a try too.

    I love kids in "grown up" looking clothes. Stella looks especially cute in those jeans!
