Just the Girls

The boys are camping tonight.

When I was little and my dad and brothers were at the annual Fathers and Sons campout, my mom, sisters, and I would check into the Embassy Suites Hotel (also known as "the pink hotel") and go shopping at South Coast Plaza. It was my favorite thing.

Since we lack the funds, a pink hotel, and the sweet mall, Mabel, Stella, and I had to settle for a trip to the library (where we borrowed enough American Girl books to keep Mabel busy for a few days), Ruby's (our favorite restaurant), and Target (our favorite store where, among other things, Mabel got some sparkely pink jelly sandals and I got a new kitchen rug). Now we are headed down to the basement to watch a movie and stay up late.

It's a good night. Hopefully Mike and Oliver are enjoying the comforts of the mini van, since that's where they'll be sleeping. I can't say I envy them.

  2. Mmm, Ruby's. They have the best shakes. As that cutie Mabel is illustrating. I think Emily got those same pink glitter sandals. Lucky girls.

  4. We had F and S last night too, but Sophie is at that age where she is hard to take in public. We started off the evening by reading princess books, and then we had Emma's favorite dinner, that the boys hate (beans and lime-cilantro rice), and we watched Alice and Wonderland together afterwards. Lots of fun! :-)

Mable is seriously cute, and I think we might be hanging out in Utah with you all in July. We can't wait!

  5. It was also our F&S last night. And although we have no S yet, our F was in charge of providing breakfast, which means I was in charge of buying all the food. I have never had so much sausage and eggs in my car in my life!

Looks fun. I can't wait until my girl catches onto the concept of a fun night out.

  6. hey - our F&S was last night, too - seriously, is this a church-wide thing?! jay had to work, so unfortunately Chelsea and I had no girly time - I seriously cannot wait for those days...and we will probably go to Target, too.

  7. sounds like a fun girls night. our father/son didn't happen this year. much to the boys' disappointment and john's relief. :) hope your boys had fun on their night out!

  8. I'm always amazed by the stories of the pink hotel. Your Mom had the right idea! In ouur last ward we had "Dad and kids" camp-outs that were so fun. Now, oddly enough... since we have a "son," our current ward doesn't have Father-Son camp-outs.

  9. Now I'm feeling guilty about my usual F&S plan of putting my girls to bed early and enjoying some ice cream and a movie by myself :) Next year I will start something fun with them like this; great idea!

  13. That sounds like so much fun- maybe in 2 years I'll get to do that when Sam takes Charlie camping! Who needs a pink hotel when you have Target and milkshakes??
