*You're so big!
First of all, jerk, I'm not that big. And second, I am only 5'2'', so the baby has to go somewhere. In my case that means straight out. (For the record, over the past few months this same person has also said: You're humongous!, I can't believe you're so big!, Why are you so big?)
*Are you not feeling well?
No, actually, I feel terrible. I have had a bad cold for over a week and wish I was home in bed.
*You look like you aren't feeling well.
Thanks. I guess all that time I spent getting ready for church this morning wasn't really worth it.
*Wow, you look like you're ready.
Nope. I have a whole month left.
*You look really tired.
Thanks for noticing.
*Any day, huh?
No. Actually, I have 33 days left. That's still a lot.
And Mike wonders why I am so grumpy when we get home from church. Maybe I should stop going. I know it's only going to get worse.
By the way, if you know someone who is pregnant, just smile at them and tell them they look beautiful. Or better yet, tell them they look tiny and there's no possible way they can be as far along as they say.
I like those people.

I know your pain, and YES you should stay home for the next few weeks and enjoy the quiet house for a couple hours.
ReplyDeleteI had someone tell me after I had just said,"this is the smallest I have been and it's #3," Oh I thought you looked HUGE. She just had her second baby so she should know not to say that. She didn't look so hot herself you know. (that makes me feel better=) I am about your height and have a short torso so my 8.7-9.8lb babies take up all of me and I end up looking HUGE, but don't want to hear about it. Good Luck!

ReplyDeleteBeen awhile, but yeah I heard about being big, too. The one that stand out is when I had a month to go with my now 16 year old. I got on the elevator at the local hospital to go see my friend and her new baby girl that she had just had. This rude guy said, "Should I be scared? You look like you are ready to pop." It was my first and I am only 5'3". I said, "you're not married are you?" He replied that he was so I told him to NOT say such stupid things when his wife gets pregnant. I then got off the elevator and waddled on down the hall. :P
ReplyDeleteI hate the "How are you?" when everyone knows I throw up the whole 9 months or "you look terrible" that I just want to say, "You would too if you spent the last 10 weeks throwing up." How come rude people have the nerve to say anything they think up, but nice people can't bring themselves to give a good retort?!

ReplyDeleteOh my, I have to say that this post really made me laugh. It is true that people aske those dumb questions. I hate that most of the time its women who have had a baby and i want to say "do you not remember what this is like?!" But my favorite is when strangers come and rub your belly! has that happened yet! Well this one lady came up to me and said "can i rub your belly... and to that I said "can i rub yours?"!! Not very nice but come ON!
ReplyDeleteUgghh ... I don't think it's an Arizona thing -- I had the same experience here in the Midwest, except I was only SIX months along when I started getting these sorts of comments.
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful. You can't possibly be 9 months pregnant!
i'm always sure to say, "wow! i thought you would have popped out by now!"
ReplyDeletecuz that's what i would like to be told.
i bet you look super pretty. and those people will be so jealous when they see how ADORABLE miss stella is. :)
Get this, I'm only going to see you ONE more time before you have your baby. Crazy huh?
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, I'm 100% sure that this cold I'm carrying around Tucson is from YOU. Thanks.
sorry steph! i told you i could have written a book of all the rude things people said to me when i was pregnant/ one of my favorites - you're really big-boned, aren't you? sometime those closest to you can be the worst too! but stella will be here soon - and you are allowed to stay home from church for a few weeks if you want.
ReplyDeleteyou ARE beautiful! you can't possibly be as far along as you say you are! and i'd like to give those people from your ward a piece of my mind.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, people just need to think. I am so sorry! I know you look great and too cute pregnant. Just tell them what is on your mind. My sister did that to her MIL. Hilarious. MIL kept saying "Oh, K*, you're looking so fat today." And my sister said "Well, you're looking fat today too!!" That shut her up!!
ReplyDeleteUgh. Stupid people need to have their mouth's duct taped. For the record, you are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteawe... that makes me sad. I love pregnant bellies. One thing that is so awesome... when I posted a picture of my belly, you were so kind to say, "wow, you look great.. hardly pregnant at all..." Why do some people have to be lame-o's??

ReplyDeleteHi, I am a old high school friend of Natalies and came across your blog. I am almost 27 weeks along with a girl also and my husband's Grandma asked me yesterday if I was sure I was not carrying twins, I am so big. I have 3 months left. It makes you want to hit someone. I would totally take some rest time from church, you will need the quiet hours. Good Luck. Your blog is adorable.
ReplyDeleteNo no, you need to keep going because that's why it's so shocking to people to see women in the last couple months of pregnancy, because we usually hide! I get a lot of- "Are you sure you're not having twins?!!" The grocery store seems to be even worse than church. And it starts by 6 months- you do look beautiful and tiny :) Next time someone tells you you look tired you should say "Yes, I could really use some help cleaning my house", or free babysitting, or something... use it to your advantage :)
ReplyDeletegreat advice. i will keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteSorry about all of thr rude people but maybe they don't realize how it sounds or how you feel. I am sure I have said some things that have been take wrong when I really didn't mean to hurt someone. You do look beautiful and goodness when you are short and pregnant just where else can that cute little Stella go. Can't wait to see her.
ReplyDeleteLove you much
Grammy
That totally sucks.
ReplyDeleteI look at you and think, "wow, I really want to get pregnant so I can look like that."
I must say, I LOVE the pregnant look. I have seen quite a few pregnant bellies lately (including yours) and I can't help but smile and miss the good old days. So please keeping sharing the last month horror stories to fill in the gaps in my quickly fading memory. We wouldn't want me doing anything rash.
ReplyDeletelaaaame. why are people so inconsiderate to pregnant women? it's like 'oh they're pregnant so they won't mind?' i mean really.
