running


Sadly, I've lost my running partner to the rigors of ASU's full-time MBA program. And so most days, you can find me shuffling through our neighborhood alone. Without Mike to push me, I am sure my pace has slowed considerably, but I like these slow, quiet (I never listen to music), solitary outings. After working all morning to get breakfast on the table and lunches packed and kids out the door, it feels good to take a little time by myself to get my heart pumping. I come home, exhausted mostly, but also ready to start my day. I am thankful that five years ago I decided to try running. It provides me with an opportunity to clear my head, seek inspiration, and build my endurance all at the same time. I can't tell you how many times I have received answers to prayers while I've been running. I am thankful that my knees haven't given out on me yet and that the weather has improved so that each morning I can lace up my running shoes and do it again.

  1. This is wonderful. :) I love running - this from a nearly 52-year-old who never ran ever in her life until 2 years ago after I lost 100 lbs. I've continued it but mostly now I'm power walking - over 4 miles every day, rain or shine, snow or ice, you name it, I'm out there. I've been called a maniac by my family (lol) but mostly it's just a testimony of God's faithfulness as it's He who has helped me to come to this point in my life, healthwise, and it's He who has helped me to become so determined. Unfortunately, my knees have begun great aching and some other little issues, likely attributed to the running, so I do about half and half on most of my outings and sometimes far more fast walking than running, but I totally get what you mean in your description of how it clears our head, and helps us to find inspiration. Thanks for sharing. :)

  2. I love my morning jog too, for the same reasons! But mine is with two or three little people so it's definitely not quiet. But it still invigorates me for the day, clears my mind, and makes my body feel strong and capable.
