happy weekend

I was really excited about having everyone home this week. And now that it's Friday, I'm really looking forward to everyone going back to school. Ha! Mostly, I just want my house to be clean again, which is impossible when everyone is home all the time. If I'm being honest, that's probably the number one reason why I could never homeschool. A clean house equals a calm Stephanie.

But I do feel like we made some good memories on our break, and I am grateful for that.

Here's the best news: my little sister, Julianne, had a baby girl! Little Helena Rose was born in Washington DC the other day and is already beloved by all who know her (or who live too far away and have only seen pictures of her). Yay for new cousins! We lucked out with two new baby girl cousins this month. It's appeasing Mike's baby hunger just a bit.

Ok guys, who are you voting for? I am completely sick of it, but also, I really need to figure it out. Who are you thinking and why? Please?

I hope you have a good, autumn-y weekend!

  1. Hillary Clinton! I've supported her ever since I taught her "Women's Rights are Human Rights" to my BYU students way back in 2004. I really respect her history of working across the aisle, supporting the rights of women and minorities, and her qualifications in terms of intelligence, education, and experience in politics. I think she has been unjustly vilified for doing things that men do all the time and women don't--I've experienced the same thing myself. She is literally one of the most honest candidates we have had in years and yet everyone sees her as an unprincipled liar. http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2016/08/hillary-clinton-one-americas-most-honest-politicians I have two daughters and four sons, and I would hands-down rather have them grow up in a country with an intelligent and talented woman at its helm than a racist xenophobic sexual predator.

  2. I'm with her too. :) I heard D. Trump on national TV (when he had his second family) say he was never going to change any diapers and I knew then he was a jerk.

  3. Check out Evan McMullin. He is the only one I have looked into that does not make me sick.

  4. Please read the e-mails released by Wikileaks. Why would Saudi Arabia and Qatar give tens of millions of dollars to the Clintons? Do you really think there are not deals involved? There is more evidence daily about her providing arms to terrorists in those countries. The Clintons have been bought and paid for throughout their political lives.

My concern is for the future of this country. I am not interested in selecting politicians at any level who focus on personal agendas and "feelings." I do not believe that the Constitution has outlived its purpose and needs to be modified to suit current socialist agendas, as Hillary does. I do not believe that a child's life does not begin until it takes its first breath out of the womb and therefore can be murdered up to that point if the mother chooses...Hillary has taken that horrific position.

I could continue but will leave it at this, I choose to vote for Donald Trump believing that what he has accomplished is more valuable to the future of this country than to suffer from the dangers which have arisen due to our incredibly weak and ignorant foreign policies, the reduced strength of our military, the denigration of our police forces, etc.. Hillary is a proven liar (Bengazi, tens of thousands of destroyed e-mails, etc) who is only interested in continuing to build her enormous financial trove...all of which she has done as a public servant, while representing of our government. Anything Donald Trump has done was as a private citizen...that is a great distinction between the two.

  5. I am in most agreement with Bev's comment (after great research far beyond the biased news sources). I too will likely end up voting for Trump. Honestly though, I do not like either candidate (and the others running don't stand a chance so I refuse to throw away my vote). I am bothered by the fact that this was the best either party could come up with. However, I will vote based on the main principals of a party and that's why I will vote Republican because the party principals best align with those of my own. I cannot, under any circumstance, vote Democrat (though I consider myself an independent voter who has voted for both sides) because I'm ashamed at where our country has headed under the present regime. At any rate, no matter who ends up in office, I firmly believe that God is in control and therefore, I need not fear.

  6. 3rd Party all the way. It almost doesn't matter which one. In my opinion, they're all better than Clinton and Trump.

  7. Hillary Clinton for sure. The first poster said everything I would say. Except to add that she has nothing to do with pro-life or pro-choice arguments. That is already in the constitution, so let's find ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies and help those who are pregnant to not have an abortion. Donald trump is a scary, self-seeking, dishonest person. He just wants more power and will not look out for anyone but himself.

  8. Check out burnmyvote.org if you want to vote 3rd party. I'm voting for Evan Mcmullin and praying for a Cinderella story.

  9. Trump is degrading to humanity. You don't have to vote Hilary but why in the world is there a question about who to vote for?

  10. I am voting third party. Probably McMullin.

  11. Yay! Helena Rose is a beautiful name!

  12. Always been a conservative republican, but this go round Evan McMullen. He is bright capable and seems to have some morals and ethics that the two major party candidates do not. "By their fruits ye shall know them". I do not see any good fruit coming from trump or Hilary. It's all so very sad.

  13. Also, my parents generation ( I'm 38) think voting 3rd party is throwing away your vote. I think it's that mentality that keeps us locked into this two party system that is no longer working. Just like buying organic foods shows stores that's what you would like, if enough people vote 3rd party we may actually be able to make show we want changes to the way people are elected etc.

    1. I agree with this SO much!!!! My mother (I'm 35) is panicking because I am voting for Evan McMullin and claims I am throwing my vote away. If enough people stand up and vote for the qualified candidate, amazing things can happen! I manage a dermatology office and one thing I've learned the last few years is that the younger generation stands up and demands something more. They aren't afraid to voice opinions and don't easily conform to traditions just because its the way it has always been done. I think Evan has a bigger chance than people realize because there is a silent majority wondering who to vote for and don't necessarily want to pick between the two circus acts. Hillary stated on 'The View' that she stands by Roe v. Wade and that babies do not have constitutional rights even on their due date and that it is up to the mother to decided whether or not to terminate the pregnancy. If you've ever seen video of an abortion, especially a late-term, partial birth abortion, you know that it is enough to bring you to your knees. She lies, she never sticks to one opinion and she believes murdering babies is ok. Trump seems tactless enough that he's going to sever any good relationships we have with other countries. I see him causing wars that are unnecessary and making a fool out of the good ol' US of A.

  14. Vote third party and share this article with everyone that you can! I found it so helpful, and especially found this paragraph to be just what I needed to be reminded of:

Certainly, the Founders never envisioned an endless cycle of United States citizens voting for the “lesser of two evils,” as the argument is often presented. The idea was for free and open elections where the people’s voice would be heard. It was simple: the candidate who best represented your interests earned your vote.

  15. I was a staunch Bernie Sanders voter, and planned to write his name in until I realized a few weeks ago that he is not an authorized "write-in" candidate in my state and my vote will literally not be counted. I would like to vote Jill Stein, but she has some policies I vehemently disagree with - same can be said for Johnson. I would rather not vote at all than vote for Trump for more reasons than I can list (I have felt this way since 2015 when he announced his intention to run, recent news has only cemented my opinion.) Therefore, by default, I am voting Clinton and hoping for only a 4 year term and for many, many things to change in those next 4 years.

  16. Trump is absolutely unconscionable to me (and I gave him a very fair shake by reading 3 of his books). If I lived in a swing state, I would vote Hillary for sure. That said, I live in deeply blue CA so I may vote 3rd party (not Gary Johnson, as I'm not a libertarian) because I have my misgivings about Hillary as well. If you have time to read 600 pages before election day, pick up her "Hard Choices" memoir of her time as Secretary of State. I truly defy anyone with an open mind to read that book and not be impressed/overwhelmed by the complex situations she has had to deal with. It is impressive. The world/politics/life is so, so complicated.

  17. 3rd party, Ed McMullen allows me to vote with a good conscience.

Hillary Clinton. I am for the official Democratic platform, for Clinton as superb politician, and for Clinton as a "private citizen", to use Bev's phrase above. I am against the official Republican platform, terrified by Trump as a politician (he would destroy our foreign relations and probably cause wars, as Abes and Stace noted above), and disgusted and angered by Trump as a private citizen. I would also be happy with President Kaine and horrified with President Pence, if it came to that.

A neighbor just put up a Trump/Pence yard sign so I ordered my Clinton/Kaine sign today. I am thrilled that Arizona is a toss-up this year and my vote will be crucial for the presidential election and not just the down-ballot candidates.

  19. I totally agree with the other comments about Trump. "rabbitstylenews" about summed up my feelings on him. However, personally I didn't feel like I could totally back Clinton either.

I had been looking at the third party candidates and have been so impressed by Evan McMullin as some of the other commentators have noted, but worried about "throwing away my vote." I read an article from Forbes that really empowered me to not worry about "throwing away my vote," but to vote for who I really want to vote for and the person I truly feel will be the best candidate. That's what we should all be doing, right? I am so grateful to be in America where we can have differences, express those differences in opinions in a peaceful & constructive manner, and work together for the good of our incredible nation.

Here's the article I'd recommend with a link to a an interview with Evan McMullin
