I might be in over my head.

Usually I feel pretty confident when I'm doing projects around the house. I've seen enough This Old House and Hometime episodes to last a lifetime. Plus, I'd say that I have a good amount of experience. When we moved into our house seven years ago, we did lots of work to it, almost entirely on our own. Since then we've done even more work. But aside from painting the old bathroom vanities, we hadn't touched the 35 year old bathrooms.

Until yesterday.

In a moment of extreme over-confidence, I bought that pretty blue dresser (which I plan on making into a vanity) and started ripping out the old stuff in our basement bathroom. I wrangled Mike into helping me get it out of the house this morning, but the rest is up to me.

Things this project requires that I have never done before:
tiling
plumbing
drywall repair
and somehow putting a sink into a really old dresser! aack!

Well, it's much too late to turn back now. Wish me luck. And please share any advice if you have it.

  3. I have total confidence in your abilities. But I still wish you luck, because that's going to be a big job. I can't wait to see it finished. It sounds like a great idea. I don't have any advice, but I offer my full support! :)

  12. We are working on the same project, however my diy projects don't turn out so well. I already have white subway tile and white and black hexagon tile in my shop. I need to either get the energy to find a dresser and sink at one of the antique stores, or save the money to order the one i pinned on pinterest...Oh, I also need to save the $x,xxx the contractor stated in the bid as well as the money for the tub and fixtures. YEP. We are not doing this on our own. Maybe if it were tit for tat (replace the tub where it stood, replace the sink where it stood) But we are actually having the original bath (that smells like mold) and Nate's closet totally gutted, new walls built and plumbing moved. Wanted it done before the baby, but looks like more of a Christmas or part of next year's tax return project. But I will have our contractor here soon to pay him for a not so fun job getting in the way of my bathroom-fixing my gutters and drains so they don't drain water straight to my foundation ruining the foundation of the house!

  13. Steph, you are the best and I know you can do it!! Your are determined and that is what it takes. Love the dresser and the bathroom will look so good when you are through, ou remind me so much of myself at your age. I Remember building a half wall in my kitchen and putting boards on the wall the painting the cabinets and papering one wall. It was a great look for the 70's. Like I said-You can do it!!!
