I've never been good at baking chocolate chip cookies.

Then I tried this recipe. They were perfect. Crispy and soft, sweet and a tad bit salty. Just the way I like them. Yum.

2 1/2 cubes butter
1 1/4 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
3 2/3 c. flour
2 T. corn starch
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. milk chocolate chips

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and combine; stir in chocolate chips. Chill the dough before baking. Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes (using a 1.5" scoop).

I left out the milk chocolate chips because I am not a fan of them, and I chilled the dough just while the oven was heating up. Oh, and I used almost 1/2 whole wheat flour and I couldn't even taste it! Fabulous.

I just love having cookies in my cookie jar.

  1. i bookmarked that recipe, too. i think everyone is always on a search for the best chocolate chip cookie. aren't we?

    i'll have to try it.

  2. i read that recipe on her blog and wanted to try it. i have a REALLY good recipe for them but i can't find it. going to have to call my mother in law. it calls for shortening and butter so you know they aren't good for you.
i need a cookie jar like that so i have a reason to bake them. i don't care for milk choc chips either.
btw, do you have a wheat grinder?

  3. I love your description; I will have to try these! I found my "favorite" choc chip recipe years ago but I have been getting a little bored with it lately. I love your cookie jar.

Oh yeah and I snuck some whole wheat flour into blueberry muffins the other day and didn't notice either; yay!

  4. I love that picture. It is beautiful.

  5. hi stephanie, my name is jamie and i saw your blog on lyndsay's supermom series and i think you are too just cute! i honestly don't even know how i got to lyndsay's blog, i was just blog hopping. hope you don't think it is weird that i am leaving you a comment, i just wanted to say hi. my blog is private, but if you are intersted i would love to send you an invite. drop me a line @ so i know your e-mail address!

  6. A cookie jar has no place at my house because cookies never last long enough! So then really I would just always have a crumb-filled jar!

  7. Yummy!!! you always have the BEST recipes!

  8. The picture make the cookies sound even better then ever. Thanks for sharing the recipe. My kiddos will be very thankful too. They just don't know it yet.

  9. YUM. And have you tried her Garlic Chicken w/Mushrooms? SO, SO good. I trust anything she makes after trying that recipe.

I only wish we were moving to Mesa next! We don't know where it'll be, just know Mesa isn't an Marine bases. I would love to be more than just blogging friends :)

  10. I just wanted to let you know that I talked about your blog in a post. I've enjoyed reading about your parenting.

  11. i second that vote for alicekind's garlic mushroom chicken. it is SUPER yummy.

  12. Ohh... I just love new recipes. I'll have to try it and see if it rivals the "secret" one a friend gave me a few years ago.

  13. i'll have to try this one. thanks for sharing.

  14. i think I've coveted that cookie jar since this post--

  15. So I tried that exact same recipe but mine didn't turn out as pretty as yours, I'm not sure why, I may have measured wrong or it could be the fact that my oven is from the 1940's. They still tasted ok though.

  16. I made these cookies today for the boys' after-school snack. They are really good! This is going to be my new chocolate chip cookie recipe.
I knew I could count on your opinion.
Thanks for being the tester. I never have the patience to try a lot of different recipes.

  17. I'm a longtime lurker who just had to say, "YUM!"

My kids just helped me make these, and they are perfection!!!

    Thank you!

    Love your blog!

  18. Going to try this I have such a hard time making good choc chip cookies too!

  19. I'm a lurker - got here a while back via your sister, via designmom. I think you have great taste and I like to look at your blog every now and then. Anyway, I just made these with my kids and they are so good! Thanks for posting the recipe.

  20. I followed Jessica's link to your cookie recipe, I can't wait to make them. Thanks!

  21. How many tablespoons are in 2 1/2 cubes of butter? I've never heard of butter 'cubes' and would love to try this recipe that NieNie linked to today.

    1. hi Bev,
Out West butter is packaged in cubes vs sticks. 1 cube = 1 stick = 4oz

My 12 year old daughter made these cookies and they were absolutely the best chocolate chip cookies we've ever had. My neighbours here in Italy kept asking what the wonderful smell was coming from our kitchen and loved them as well. So many many thanks from this side of the world!
