summer: expectation vs. reality

I found this doodle in my living room the other day, drawn by Mabel. I thought it was so funny! And also true. We always have such high hopes for summer, don't we? And then it's 115 degrees everyday and we mostly end up sitting around, trying to stay cool. Well, our summer break is winding down. Only two weeks til everyone will be back in school (including Mike!).

I thought this little part needed to be enlarged. Ha! #blessed

We have one last quick trip to California to visit family and see the ocean. And then we'll be all about the backpacks and lunch boxes and pencils and new shoes.

Any last fun plans before school starts?

  3. That is so very cute and clever!! :)
We're at a different phase of life at our house. Our youngest and oldest daughters start back with college studies in a few weeks and our middle daughter is trying to find her way to what she wants (though actually all 3 are sort of stuck in that mode). The start of school doesn't really bring the same feelings anymore since we don't have any young ones, but for me - a University worker - it does mean a once-again crowded campus (boo hoo), as opposed to quiet summer days.

So, we're still very much enjoying summer days here with a party with old friends this weekend, a trip to the dunes in Michigan coming up, and an anniversary getaway to beautiful southern Illinois (my happy place).

  4. Wow! Not only is she a good artist, she has quite the sense of humor!
2 of mine start Monday and my high schooler (!!!!!) starts the 8th. I'm over summer at this point.

  6. I'm squeezing a few more trips in before Labor Day: New York City this weekend, our ward campout in Sharon, Vermont, a road trip to Philly for the Temple open house, and maybe a Saturday in Maine. #summerisnotoveryet

  7. Haha, I need one of those for motherhood. What kind of mom I expected I'd be and then reality. There are far fewer craft projects and vegetables in reality. 😀

  10. This really does look like it's from a professional cartoonist-not only does she draw well but she has herself a quick wit!
