We had Regional Conference this morning. That means that members of our Church all over the state of Arizona (over 90 Stakes!) were able to watch a broadcast from our Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Two of my favorite Apostles, Elder Holland and President Eyring, spoke to us. During the meeting, my heart was full of gratitude for the blessing of revelation and inspiration. I believe that God still reveals truth through modern day prophets, and I know that we are all qualified to receive personal inspiration through His spirit. These two truths bless my life everyday.

President Eyring, always tender and quiet, spoke of being a "wise optimist". In these difficult times, it is easy to be discouraged. But President Eyring reminded me that the wise optimist always has the advantage over the pessimist. A wise optimist prays and prepares. She tries and tries again. Things won't necessarily be easy, but if she persists with faith in Jesus Christ, she will see blessings and miracles. I know this is true, and I have a renewed desire to look on the bright side. Not naively or foolishly, but wisely, and with purpose.

Today was a really wonderful day. I hope yours was, too!

  1. Thank you for the report. We couldn't make it today. A wise optimist is such a great phrase. Thanks for your sweet thanksgiving posts.

  2. The best way to live a good life it to be optimistic. He was so right but the key word he used was wise. It is not hard to be optimistic but it is harder to be a wise one. good blog Steph.

  3. This is a really wonderful post. Have a great week!

  4. I know of so many stake conferences here in Utah where a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be attending in the next couple weeks. That is so rare. I think we all need some comforting and encouraging words right now. His message reminds me of a young mother who spoke in a small rural sacrament meeting over Labor Day. Her message was about raising children in such an immoral world. She reminded us that when Christ sends his apostles out to preach, minister to the world, he instructed them, "Behold I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves." We can not sit back and not be involved and say- no problem, Heavenly Father is in charge. You summed it up perfectly, Be positive but not naively or foolishly! I return to the faces of Elder Holland and Elder Nelson at the news conference following the announcement of the lowering of the missionary age. They were so excited, they looked like little children on Christmas! That is the outlook we should remember. Do the work and look forward to all the good that is still ahead!

  5. They are my 2 favorites. Sad I missed hearing them!

  6. Do you have a way of getting a copy of the conference talks they gave.
